چکیده
The formation of nanocrystals is at the heart various scientific disciplines, but atomic mechanisms underlying early stages crystallization from supersaturated solutions are still rather unclear. Here, we used in situ liquid-phase scanning transmission electron microscopy to study level very gold nanocrystal growth, and evolution its crystallinity. We found that nucleation initiated by poorly crystalline nanoparticles. These transformed into monocrystals via nanocrystallization governed a complex process multiple out-and-in exchanges matter between crystalline-core disordered-shell, referred as cluster-cloud. Our observations crystal/cluster-cloud interface during growth demonstrate initially formed expel crystallized phases nanoclusters cluster-cloud, then readsorb it two distinct pathways, namely, (i) monomer attachments (ii) nanocluster coalescence. This eventually leads monocrystalline

Metal-graphene interaction studied via atomic resolution scanning transmission electron microscopy.
Distributions and atomic sites of transition metals and gold on suspended graphene were investigated via high-resolution scanning transmission electron microscopy, especially using atomic resolution high angle dark field imaging. All metals, albeit as singular atoms or atom aggregates, reside in the omni-present hydrocarbon surface contamination; they do not form continuous films, but clusters ...

The feasibility of using a high-resolution scanning transmission electron microscope to study the diffusion of heavy atoms on thin film substrates of low atomic number has been investigated. We have shown that it is possible to visualize the diffusion of individual uranium atoms adsorbed to thin carbon film substrates and that the observed motion of the atoms does not appear to be induced by th...
متن کاملArchaeological Ceramics Studied by Scanning Electron Microscopy
The use of scanning electron microscopy combined with energy dispersive X-ray fluorescence analysis in studies of archaeological pottery is discussed. The methods are described and results of their application to studies of Precolumbian glossy black pottery from northern Peru are reported in some detail.

Silica nanoparticles are imaged in solution with scanning transmission electron microscopy (STEM) using a liquid cell with silicon nitride (SiN) membrane windows. The STEM images reveal that silica structures are deposited in well-defined patches on the upper SiN membranes upon electron beam irradiation. The thickness of the deposits is linear with the applied electron dose. Scanning electron m...
متن کاملMolecular dynamics of DNA and nucleosomes in solution studied by fast-scanning atomic force microscopy.
Nucleosome is a fundamental structural unit of chromatin, and the exposure from or occlusion into chromatin of genomic DNA is closely related to the regulation of gene expression. In this study, we analyzed the molecular dynamics of poly-nucleosomal arrays in solution by fast-scanning atomic force microscopy (AFM) to obtain a visual glimpse of nucleosome dynamics on chromatin fiber at single mo...
